Tree pruning can help keep your trees healthy & strong
Tree pruning is one of the most common types of tree services we provide. The fact is, that most landscape trees need more care and maintenance than a tree that happens to be out in the woods. Pruning and trimming helps a tree stay strong and healthy, as well as keep it looking nice.
If you have tree pruning done by someone who does not have experience maintaining a tree properly, then your tree may be in trouble. If you do not prune a tree properly, it can contribute to a tree dying earlier than it should, due to damage that was done to it during the pruning process.
Why tree pruning?
Whenever you prune (or, otherwise, cut a tree), you create significant changes. These changes can affect the health of the tree and how it grows over time.
If you have dead branches, want to improve safety of the property or for the people in your community, reduce the chance for falling branches (and damage to your home or others) or increase the amount of light or air movement you get on your house, then tree pruning may be something you should consider.
Tree pruning is done to make sure your trees stay healthy and reduce the chance of having to cut a tree down because it becomes sick.
When should you prune a tree?
Tree pruning is an invaluable tool in keeping your trees healthy. When you do light pruning to remove dead (or weak) branches or diseased limbs, you are contributing to the overall health of the trees on your property. When done properly, this has little effect on your trees.
In most cases, you can prune trees during the year at any time. (This is especially true in emergency situations or if you have had a bad storm.) However, it is best if you do pruning before Spring. When your trees are in a growth cycle, you can damage or weaken trees.
Unless, of course, you have a diseased tree. If you prune during the prime cycle of disease transmission, you can further infect a single or neighboring trees by pruning them.
If you’re unsure about when you should prune your trees (or, how) contact Mockingbird Tree to get a professional evaluation.
What tree pruning should you do?
If you want to keep your trees healthy to maturity, pruning should be done regularly. Many of the techniques used to maintain trees can only be performed properly by a professional tree service. These may include:
- Remove any and all dying, diseased, dead or weak branches
- Remove lower branches to provide clearance for vehicles, buildings or views.
- Keep the tree from impeding on utility poles, lines or easements.
- Reduce the height to keep the tree’s structure and form. (Not “tree topping.” We do not do that, as it is not healthy for the tree.)
- Thin the foliage at the base of the tree crown. This is done to help let in more light, increase airflow and to keep the tree looking beautiful.
